Many seniors are actually not eating properly in the United States and it is something that must get fixed. They are malnourished which will definitely knock off some years from their life.

First things first, when taking stock of your loved one's health, pantries and refrigerators are a good place to start. If they are bare or contain old food, this could be a clue about the way they are eating.

If an elderly person you know is continuously complaining about a bruise that just won't go away, a possible reason for that is because they are not getting the supply of nutrients that they need on a daily basis.

The foremost thing you must do is learn about this problem and find a way to help you loved one so that they can still be here for years to come. Help them understand how they eat and what they eat is an important part of them staying healthy.

The body's need for vitamin C increases with age. Seniors should incorporate at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Strawberries, oranges, grapefruit, tomatoes, broccoli, red bell pepper and potatoes are all rich in vitamin C.

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin we all need. The sun is the most easiest way of getting it, but with age it gets harder. Introduce some foods that are high in vitamin D such as oatmeal and egg yolk.

Water is one of the most important things. Your body needs it to stay afloat. The elderly must drink nine glasses of water a day.
