Knowledge Of How To Reverse Insulin Resistance May Be Basic In The Prevention Of Diabetes

Most people will have heard about the growing tide of diabetes that threatens to overwhelm medical services, but relatively few people are knowledgeable about the causes of diabetes. There is even less knowledge about the function of insulin and the impact resistance to this vital hormonal substance can have on health. The hormone is created within the pancreas. Its critical activity is in aiding the breakdown of starch and fatty foodstuffs which contain energy providing glucose. In a nutshell, this hormone makes possible and controls the release of energy within the body at a cellular level and so directly impacts on all bodily functions.

Patients who display resistance find their bodies do not use the substance properly. The pancreas tries to compensate for this by producing more, but due to the malfunction excess glucose accumulates in the bloodstream. The symptoms of this form of diabetes are often difficult to pin down, resulting in frequent misdiagnosis. They can include abdominal weight gain, extreme cholesterol levels and high blood pressure all of which lean towards problems in the cardiac area.

The problems of sedentary lifestyles, too much starch based food which serves to perpetuate the sugar processing problem, results in massive numbers of people becoming obese. This in turn increases the risk of diabetes. The tragedy is this almost self induced decline into the life changing world of diabetes can be avoided. Decisions about exercise, diet and taking the right vitamins and supplements may impede the onset or prevent the condition entirely.

The weird aspect about human nature is that making life enhancing choices is not hard. Our shops are bursting with high healthy salad greens and vegetables. These foods are low in starch, full of fiber and extremely nutritious. As they have very little sugary compounds in the first place, much of the job is done. Exercise admittedly is going to be more demanding but it can be pleasurable.

Proteins derived from fish, eggs, poultry, soy and whey also aid the process because they stimulate the release of hormones that work to counteract excessive insulin levels. Supplements rich in vitamins K, D, E and C, consult a specialist in this field for the correct dosage, all assist the normalization of blood sugars, as will any other naturally sourced anti-oxidant. Oh, and did anyone mention exercise yet, yes lots of it.

By now it will be clear that many concerns and obstacles around how to reverse insulin resistance are rooted in lifestyle and dietary choices. The choice is no longer how but when.
