Have You Been Accidentally Damaging Your Diet?

By Shannon Wright

We all recognize that the best foods to consume when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These are the foods that give us all protein and energy. They help our bodies be balanced without infusing a variety of calories that we will need to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize though that a few of the diet foods you've been eating may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could even be making you gain additional weight! Check out a number of the foods that might be allowing you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

You are not actually aided by Sports Drinks. You've likely been thinking that the sports drink is the easiest way to help your whole body feel much better after a workout. Most doctors concur, however, that if your exercise routine is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks could completely undermine your diet program because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Instead, have a shot at drinking some chocolate milk. Your body utilizes the sugar within the chocolate for muscle mass repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Skip the protein shakes. So many people assume that drinking a protein shake is a good way to end cravings when it isn't meal time. The real truth is that for anyone who is already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake does is overload your system with protein. Contrary to popular opinion, protein does not get saved as muscle, it gets stored as fat. This means that if you have already taken in too much protein that day, your body will merely store what it doesn't need in your fat cells and that doesn't help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is just not nearly as healthy for you as you might believe it is. It's typically considered that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread as well as lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a large amount of preservatives and will provide you with about a third of your advised sodium ingestion for the day. This can be specifically bothersome if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of picking deli meat, select home prepared chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you will spend more money for these selections but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are all kinds of things that we think will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, by way of example is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask your doctor which foods are right for you and then eat those. If you understand and are watchful about what kind of food you let yourself eat, losing weight isn't going to be a terribly big deal.
