Advantages Of Organic Protein Powder

By Iva Cannon

People need good, digestible protein in sufficient amounts every day. This nutrient is important for proper development, growth, and tissue repair and replacement. It also makes people feel less hungry and maintain energy throughout the day. Since it's not all that easy to get an adequate and high-quality supply of proteins, using an organic protein powder supplement is a good idea.

Adults need at least 40 grams of good proteins a day to maintain health and well-being. Getting this amount is hard for some. Perhaps they don't really like meat, one of the best sources of the nutrient. They may be allergic to dairy, another class of foods rich in amino acids, the building blocks of proteins.

Research, especially in the natural foods industry, has shown that people do better on some proteins than on others, which is another complication for those who seek to maintain or improve health. Vegetarians and vegans, who have more trouble finding good sources of proteins, may find that they don't have the time or the patience to structure an adequate eating plan. Many ailments, such as fibromyalgia and debilitating lack of energy, are made more serious by a lack of proteins.

Food allergies often complicate the efforts of people to eat a balanced diet. Those who cannot digest milk, for instance, are either going without this food or failing to process it, so their bodies do not benefit from it and may actually regard it as a toxin. The Blood Type Diet tells us that some people do not digest beef well, or pork, but do alright with chicken. Others may have the exact opposite response to foods.

There is another prevalent reason why people fail to get the necessary proteins. They may simply be too busy. Grabbing carbohydrate and fat-laden fast foods or snacks, or skipping meals altogether, can mean a lack of many vital nutrients.

Proteins in powder form may be whole food products, like whey, but are more often concentrated proteins from milk, soy, legumes, sea vegetables, or other sources. They usually contain added vitamins and minerals as well as enzymes to enhance digestion and flavors to make them palatable. By concentrating the proteins, which involves removing carbohydrates and fats from whole food, manufacturers can provide up to half the daily requirement in one meal-replacing drink.

Those without food restrictions can make use of all the proteins on the market today. This includes soy and whey, the more traditional ones, and newer formulas based on peas, nuts, or sea vegetables. Whey can often be used by even lactose-intolerant individuals, since it contains almost none of the allergen. However, those people may choose to use soy or pea proteins instead. Soy, a potent phytoestrogen, may not be the best choice for men.

Organic certification is important. Numerous crops that are used by people or fed to animals are being grown with high applications of chemicals in the form of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. The health risks of genetic engineering are unknown at present. Organic products will not have this chemical load to pass on to consumers and will not contain GMOs, either. Choosing to buy organically produced foods and products is a way to get pure, clean food for better health.
