Rid Yourself of Crows Feet

By Alina Karemin

Collagen is lost from our skin as part of the aging process. This means that the skin is less firm to the touch and begins to wrinkle and sag. Age and a poor skin care routine are the primary causes of crows feet. The most delicate skin on the body is around one's eyes, so it is important to wear sun cream, moisturize daily, drink plenty of water, and to always remove make up with a gentle cosmetic and cotton pads. Age is not the only cause of wrinkles; sun exposure, your diet and even smoking are factors. Luckily there are non-surgical ways of holding on to your youthful looks, even if these factors can play heavily in the way you age.

Fine lines that form around your eyes are called crows feet. Then might be more noticeable when you are smiling. Over time they develop, and when people squint their eyes they are especially pronounced. You will seldom see crows feet in youth. But, premature aging and too much sun exposure can cause crows feet to appear earlier than necessary. Also contributing to their early formation is smoking, studies show.

Botox injections work by relaxing wrinkle forming facial muscles. As already noted, repetitive facial expressions cause deep wrinkles, such as crows feet. One's appearance can be dramatically improved, and the wrinkles become less noticeable, when the muscles responsible for these facial expressions are weakened. The muscles can be weakened without taking away or detracting from one's facial expressiveness, by using Botox.

Many people who potentially could be helped by this medicine have been frightened by the popular media, which has caused much confusion and misinformation about Botox. When inexperienced or non-licensed users misuse this medication, especially in non-licensed or non-medical facilities, it leads to negative news about Botox.

In a doctor's office, this nonsurgical procedure can be done properly. The treatment takes only 5-10 minutes. Improvement in the reduction of wrinkles can be seen within 24 hours with continued improvement for up to 5 days. Botox results may last anywhere from 3 to 12 months.

Those who have not been trained should not inject Botox - it is a prescription drug. Botox is a neurotoxin that can paralyze muscles that are contracting, when it is used in small amounts. Botox is injected into the affected area for example around your eyes where crow's feet form, and then it binds to that nerves ending. When it binds to the nerve ending, blocking signals to the muscle that causes it to contract, it causes paralysis in that muscle.

Side effects of Botox injections are very minimal. In some cases, when there is no recovery time a patient has experienced some swelling and redness around the injection site. Right after having the injection, one can go back to their regular routine. A small amount of bruising, nausea, and headache after an injection has been reported by some individuals, but these symptoms go away rapidly.
