Scope Of Work Of An Austin Foot Doctor

By Carmella Watts

Human medicine is wide and complex. It involves the study, prevention and treatment of a range of complications affecting the human body. These complications are usually dealt with in different medical fields. Podiatry is the field that deals with health issues of the feet. Basically, it is considered to be a branch of medicine that devotes itself to the study and care of low body extremities, meaning those below the knees. An Austin foot doctor will therefore, diagnose and treat feet diseases and also administer the right medication.

A hoof doctor may specialize in one or a number of areas that deal with the feet and their health. In general, there are two major branches of podiatry medicine. The two branches are non-surgical and surgical podiatry. In a number of countries, all podiatrists are trained and specialized in both areas of hoof care. In some other countries, podiatrists do not conduct surgical care. They can only do it upon specialization.

Upon completion of the required study program for podiatry medicine, foot care specialists have the option of specializing further in other fields within foot care. Some of the most common sub specializations include reconstructive hoof and ankle surgery to correct an accident or birth defect, sports podiatry which consists of hoof care for sports people, general podiatry, onco-podiatry and forensic podiatry which involves study of hoof prints and patterns at a crime scene.

A podiatrist will treat a variety of problems. Some of these complications include calluses, diabetic feet, feet skin complications, sporting wounds and injuries, bunions, flat feet, arches and corns and rheumatism affecting the feet.

The changing lifestyle habits of many people have led to an increased demand for quality care. Lifestyle changes have led to more people suffering from things like flat feet, feet rheumatism and diabetic feet. Environmental changes have also contributed to the increased occurrence of some of these conditions.

Different regions and countries have different requirements for accreditation and certification of foot care doctors. In many countries, academic requirements for podiatrists consist of four years of undergraduate studying of podiatry, specialized hoof care studying for four other years and a further three to four years in residency training.

After completing the residency, this is not the end of learning. One may opt to specialize in a specific field of foot care such as onco-podiatry. This specialization requires more studying in an accredited institution. One may also be required to apply for membership in certain organizations and bodies related to hoof care and treatment.

It is quite obvious that a professional Austin foot doctor has a big and important role to play in the general wellness and health of the society. In particular, foot care goes a long way in ensuring that the whole human body is working normally. A complication in the feet has the capacity to affect the whole body.
